Surf Conservation Partnership
Conservation International and Save The Waves Coalition joined forces to protect world-class waves and vital marine ecosystems. As an Advisory Board Member, I supported community building and communications.
Surfrider Foundation
Surfrider is dedicated to protecting ocean, waves, and beaches. I served as the Volunteer Coordinator for 3 years for the NYC chapter, and have since volunteered with LA, Ventura, and MA chapters on projects ranging from beach cleanups to ocean-friendly gardens and ocean-friendly restaurants.
Swim Strong
Swim Strong teaches underprivileged kids in Far Rockaway, NY water safety and swimming by providing low-cost or free swim lessons. I taught swim lessons, fostered collaboration with Surfrider, and recently copyedited curriculum for on-land learning.
Tompkins Conservation
Camped in Patagonia for three weeks to help build and maintain the Conservacion Patagonica parkland, established by Doug and Kris Tompkins. Removed fencing (allowing animals to roam freely) and invasive plants to let the land regenerate.
5 Gyres Institute
Sailed from Bermuda to New York on the 2015 Sea Change Expedition to collect data on ocean plastic pollution in the North Atlantic Gyre. Along the way we trawled, sorted, and analyzed the samples to amass data for 5 Gyres' research.
WAVES for Development
Volunteered with the WAVES afterschool program in the small fishing village of Lobitos, Peru. Taught swim and surf lessons and assisted with English classes for local kids. Helped coordinate and secure product donations for fundraiser events in NYC.
Saha Global
I was a Fellow and Fellowship Leader. Helped build a clean drinking water facility in the rural village of Chanaayili in northern Ghana. Returned to co-lead a group of 28 Fellows, assisting with training and implementation of water systems in 7 rural villages. 100% are female-run and running today.
Waves For Water
Distributed drinking water filters to schools and rural communities in Ghana through the Clean Water Courier program. Supported W4W Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts in Rockaway Beach and Long Beach, NY by distributing supplies and helping families clean out their homes.
91st St Community Garden
The Beach 91st Street Community Garden in Rockaway Beach, NY has a diverse community of 30+ gardeners. I managed garden communications via email and social channels and coordinated volunteer days and social events to build community.
